We have brought our pets here for years, and only recently have I become very disappointed in the service. We just had our 1.5 year old golden retriever neutered. He loves his crate, so when he came home and had to wear “the cone” I panicked. He wasn’t going to be able to sleep in his crate, or go in there while we were at work. Not only that, but it looked very uncomfortable. I looked online for a surgical suit and bought it immediately. We alternated between the cone, and surgical suit. Somehow his incision came open. It possibly could have been from the suit since he could still reach that area, or it could have been from being a rambunctious golden. I took him in as soon as I noticed. While waiting in the waiting room the receptionist told me they sold the surgical suits at Hawthorne. I brought my dog back to the room to be fixed up. First, I had to help the tech lift my dog onto the table. He’s a big boy! Second, I had to help the vet tech hold down my dog while the vet stitched him up. I found this practice odd. The vet figured she would not have to numb him, as he was already numb?!? Well he wasn’t numb, because every time she put the needle in he would spasm and flinch, and he was shaking uncontrollably the whole time. During the stitching, the vet rudely said, “And you thought the suit was better than the cone?”Not only am I holding down my dog while he is in pain, but then I am criticized. This situation was very traumatic for my poor dog and myself.
